DETROIT SCIENCE BOOK CLUB
a free community discussing science-related books
We are a group of science enthusiasts who meet regularly to discuss books from various fields of science such as chemistry, biology, physics, environmental, space, nature, historical, true science-related events, climate, weather, oceans, animals, dinosaurs, research, the Great Lakes, geology, medicine, health... The books can be fiction or non-fiction. Come and join us to explore the science world together!
Who: Everyone! All ages. Those with and without science backgrounds or experience.
When: We meet a few times a year. This allows time to checkout the book from a library and read leisurely without a rushed timeline to finish.
Cost: This book club can be entirely free. We strive to pick books that can be found at a library. We tend to meet at low cost venues for discussion but the choice is yours to indulge in a treat or not.
Where: All over metro-Detroit area. Our initial survey showed interest from as west as Ann Arbor, east as Port Huron, north as Rochester, and south as Monroe. We won't meet in the same area for two consecutive meetings. We'll take location recommendations! And sometimes we'll meet virtually.
How do we pick the next book? We have a list of over 140 books! (We take book suggestions!) We use an Excel macro function to randomly pick three books from the list. Then we create a poll. At the same time, we poll meeting locations and dates. The most votes win!
